Thanks for the confirmation, Patas, I think I can now release the breath I've been holding.
Seriously, who would have thought... The Inuyasha manga is pretty close to the end, and when we were talking about the possibility of the continuation of the anime (which ended partly because the manga couldn't keep up with the story), someone mentioned that Japanese animation changed a lot in recent years and that such "old" series don't have much of a chance to be picked up again.
Well, it seems that he was proven wrong...

I...don't even have words!
I didn't think anything could have brightened up my midterms quite like this. I wonder if they'll follow an untouched arc from the novels, or just do something like TRY, with an entirely new story. Can't wait to see this story develop! |

原作のスレイヤーズ本編はずっと言い続けているように既に完結しているので、再アニメ化するからといって第３部が始まるようなことはありませんが、本編１５巻分のカバーイラスト新規描き下ろし新装版は発売予定。

Temorary plan for Mr. Kanzaka's novels are --- there is no Slayers episode in the May issue of monthly Dragon Magazine. In the issue which will come out in May will have a short episode of Abyss Gate series, and in the issue which will come out in July will have an episode of Slayers Special, and this will promote the new TV anime of Slayers.
As we have told again and again that the main series of Slayers was completed, there will be no more episode sequel to the main series. But they will re-publish each 15 books with newly drawn cover-arts.

I got those infomation below directly from Mr. Kanzaka up to now (Feb. 28th), but they aren't official. Those information will be changed until they will announce officially.
ＴＶアニメ新作の方は、アニメオリジナルストーリーで、１クール＋１クールの分割２クール方式とのこと。
制作スタッフは、旧ＴＶシリーズも担当された渡部監督＋J.C.STAFF。（最近のスタチャ作品では１クール目と２クール目で制作会社と作風がガラッと変わる場合がありますが今回はそれはないという話です）
The story of new TV anime will be exclusive for the new series. They'll make one cours first, and then they'll make another cours.
The director will be Mr. Takashi Watanabe who directed Slayers first season, Slayers NEXT and Slayers TRY. The anime creating company will be J.C.STAFF. (I was afraid that Star Child offten changed the anime creating staff between the first cours and the second cours, and the graphic of TV anime will be changed, but as far as I know, they'll keep the same staff for the new Slayers TV anime.)
一部で心配されてるキャスト変更も基本的にはないようですので、「リナは林原さんの声じゃないと認めない！」とゆー旧アニメ版スレイヤーズのファンも一安心？
Some of you may be anxious about the voice actors. As far as I know that they'll use the same voice actors. So, please be relieved if you are an enthusiastic fan who always say "I can't accept any other voice actress as Ms. Hayasibara for Lina=Inverse!".
ただ、何度も言いますが、実際に完成してＴＶで放送されるまでスタッフ・関係者にも「絶対」とは言い切れないのが今のＴＶアニメ業界です。
現時点ではまだ確定事項ではないので、ご注意＆ご了承ください。正確な情報はドラゴンマガジンおよび各アニメ誌上でご確認を！
Anyway, in the anime industry in Japan, nothing is confirmed even if they announce the official informations. All of the thing will be changed before they'll finish the episodes and they'll air them.

This announcement made my day! I was hoping that the story would be based on the novels, but this is a minor issue. Can't believe after all this years we will be graced with another Slayers series!

Thanks Shansito and QP/Diana for the translation - I barely understood anything with the Google translating tool. So they are also re-publishing the original novels... look like Slayers is on the roll!

2009 will be the 20th anniversary of the birth of the series, maybe they're doing this in part for that

People have been talking about the possibility of new seasons of the tv series for a while, but I'd sort of given up hope on something like that happening anytime soon.
Glad to know I was wrong ^.^
Though I wonder if this has any connection to that Meet Again video they released a while back that got everyone mad... do you think they'll use it as the opening theme song? And do you think that they'll have the same style of animation as in the video? Or maybe they'll use something different?
Also, I wonder what characters will appear? They have to have Lina. Leaving her out would be like leaving Sherlock Holmes out of the Sherlock Holmes books. Hopefully they'll include Gourry, Zel, Amelia, and Xellos, though that's less certain I think. It would be cool if Naga made an appearance as well.
I'm glad to know that they'll have the same voice-actors as before. Hard to imagine anyone other than Megumi Hayashibara playing Lina.
Though I wonder how long it'll take for them to release an English version. Hopefully, someone will fansub it and put it on youtube before too long.
I hope that they can get some of the actors from the tv series or movies to do the English dub. I liked the most of the English dub actors, and it would be sad to see the new tv series turned into a crappy, unwatchable dub like Lost Universe.

don't worry, I've been in fansub groups for a few years, probably 2 or 3 different groups (and that just in English) will subtitle it and in HQ ^^

Being Slayers, I prefer the scan more than the horse xD let's hope QP/Diana buy the DM, and probably more people will buy it, so soon we'll have better scans ^^ (if the shipping costs weren't so high, I'd have ordered one too...)
